Meet the Team

Accounts and Taxation

Patricia (Trish/Tricia) Smith

Trish began to build the practice in 1981. The early years were interrupted by the arrival of two sons but since then the practice has grown which has resulted in three office moves to accommodate this, the final move being to Falcon House in 2003. Soon after, in 2007, Crawfords (a local firm of chartered accountants) was acquired and Falcon Accountants was formed.

Trish deals with all aspects of accounts and taxation for both individuals and businesses. Her speciality is management accounts; especially for expanding businesses to help keep the owners up to date with its performance.

Outside work Trish enjoys walking, gardening and visiting places of interest.

Susie Bayfield MAAT

Susie is our Accounts Manager who began her career with an established firm of accountants in Morecambe, becoming AAT qualified with them back in 2007. After relocating to Braintree she joined Falcon Accountants in September 2015. Susie has a broad range of experience and oversees the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and companies along with personal tax returns for individuals.

In her spare time Susie enjoys socialising, dining out and a good game of crazy golf.

Tom Heather MAAT

Tom joined Falcon in July 2012, two weeks after completing his GCSEs and following a two week work experience with the firm in October 2011. He began studying for the AAT Qualification shortly after joining and went on to qualify in the summer of 2015. Tom is now studying towards his ACCA qualification. Tom’s roles within the firm include preparation of sole trade, partnership and company accounts, overseeing bookkeeping and VAT return preparation, assisting clients with management accounts whilst also assisting with a variety of bookkeeping software.

In his spare time, Tom enjoys (used loosely) watching Ipswich Town FC as a season ticket holder whilst also following Formula 1.

Charlie Turner MAAT

Charlie joined Falcon in June 2014, he began studying for the AAT qualification in September 2014 and went on to qualify in the summer of 2017. Charlie is now studying towards his ACCA qualification. Job roles for Charlie include accounts preparation, calculating & submitting VAT returns and assisting clients with various bookkeeping & accounting issues.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoys watching, playing & talking about football as much as possible. He is also known as the office hoover as he will eat any left-over food that he can get his hands on.

Nathan Young

Nathan joined Falcon in July 2015, he began studying for the AAT qualification in September 2015 and is currently working towards his level 4 qualification. Nathan’s job roles include preparation of sole trader, partnership and company accounts, as well as calculating, and submitting VAT returns.

In his spare time, when not studying, Nathan enjoys swimming, running and watching Netflix.

Payroll Department

Hayley Young

Hayley started working for Falcon Accountants February 2013 as a bookkeeper. Her role changed within the practice to the payroll department in 2015. Hayley now specialises in providing payroll services and the administration in connection with the Construction Industry Scheme for a diverse range of clients. Keeping clients compliant with Auto Enrolment is also part of her role.

When not at work, Hayley loves life and lives it to the full. She enjoys ballroom and Latin dancing, walking, swimming, socialising with family and friends, going to concerts, theatre trips, theme parks, and she also loves to shop till she drops!

Sandra Bird

Sandra joined our team in January 2009 as a part time member of staff. She also works part time for another accountancy firm in Colchester. Sandra initially joined us to do accounts production but now also processes payroll and automatic enrolment.

Sandra loves to socialise, go on holidays and walk her Yorkiepoo named Polly. She loves 1950’s rock’n’roll and can be seen in her circle skirt and petticoat jiving at the local record hop.


Helen Catley

Helen has worked for Trish since the last century (1997 to be precise). Helen’s main role is book-keeping for some of our clients, either at their premises or in our own offices. (Sage/Iris Kashflow). Bank reconciliation, VAT returns. Experience in the Construction Industry, Retail & others. Being a trained typist Helen is back-up for administration team & useful with quick entry of invoices.

Whilst not at work Helen enjoys gardening including growing vegetables on 2 allotments, flower arranging, cooking, cycling, walking, has church responsibilities and assists with 5 grand-children whenever possible. Phew!

Kay Beavis

Kay joined Falcon Accountants in May 2000 and officially is the Practice Manager but has been renamed as the ‘Rottweiler’ by many clients. Kay moved to the office from a roll as a PA bringing with her the IT and bookkeeping skills she needed to help grow Falcon.

Outside the office Kay likes the outside life whether that is gardening or walking. She also enjoys history, photography and holidays.

Reception and Administration

Angie Amos

Angie is one of our Administration Assistants and has been working for Falcon Accountants since April 2008. As well as typing she is also responsible for all Reception duties, Filing, Input onto Sage, Petty Cash and any other administration duties that are required within the Office.

At home she enjoys cooking for the family, reading and cardmaking. On top of that she finds the time and energy to go personal training twice a week.

Caroline Dicker

Caroline joined Falcon in 2002 after completing a computer course at Witham Tech following a few years as a stay at home mum. Caroline is part of the administrative team using Sage, Iris and Mail Merge.

In her spare time Caroline enjoys swimming, cooking, walking the family dog and relaxing with a really good book.

Karen Self

Karen joined the team in 2014, her main duties are Company Secretarial and database maintenance. Karen also assists with bookkeeping and credit control.

Outside of work Karen has a busy family life and enjoys spending time with her sons, going to the cinema and a spot of crochet. She also is a season ticket holder at Ipswich Town.
